A newsletter covering DevOps, containers, and other things Developer Advocate Tao thinks are neat
With GPT-4 now released for beta testing and a self-hosted version of Meta's LLaMA large-language model you can run on your MacBook, you'd have to be living under a rock not to notice the new breakneck pace of machine learning.
In this month's The Inner Loop, we're resurrecting dead sages with ChatGPT-powered chatbots, launching GitOps'ed EKS clusters, and taking a break to talk Ukrainian resistance art and revolutionary music.
Simple EKS clusters
Now with GitOps
Did you know the official CLI for creating EKS clusters, eksctl, has support for GitOps? I didn't either until I poked around the documentation. Simple tools that are implicit with declarative effects are a favorite of mine because they're easy to get started with while keeping state visible.
I created a "Buddhabot" for my wife using OpenAI's ChatGPT API. This Buddhabot is instructed to act as a sage advisor to any and all who seek wisdom. Try it out with a Telegram account and a click ➡️
Free your meetings from the curse of oblivion with Whisper
If you want to transcribe a meeting cheaper and with greater accuracy than Otter, try OpenAI's Whisper API. It's accurate even if your audio source was a cavern full of festive trolls.
Want to build your own ChatGPT or solve the mysteries of the universe with your machine learning model? Amazon SageMaker ships a web IDE, Jupyter notebooks and custom container images. Build and deploy your own suite of machine learning tools using Garden. Just aws ecr get-login to get your custom docker login command then garden deploy and you're done.
If you enjoy coffee and you enjoy art, you're going to love Standart. I discovered this little mag at the tiny coffee shop, Cophi, on a recent weekend trip to Warsaw. The latest issue features the blocky art of Cynthia Alfonso I think you'll dig.
If you're old enough to remember the miniature Linux PCs of mid 2000, you may remember the Eee PC 701, a tiny tool of wonder I'd use to tap out note in community college classes of Abnormal Psych 101. Join the conversation over at Fosstodon
The women of the music genre known as musique concrète are a source of inspiration to me. None more so than Éliane Radigue who produced her masterful Trilogie de la Mort 🔊 in 1998 after a three year stay among Tibetan Buddhists. The album is a 3-hour sonic journey through the Tibetan Book of the Dead.
While in Warsaw I went to see the world's largest contemporary collection of Ukrainian art. In Kołysanka ("Lullaby") Daria Koltsova molds the faces of children killed in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I am happiest when I help others. That’s why I’d love to help you wherever you are in your container development story, even if you’re brand new. Please reply to this email or reach out on Mastodon if you find containers scary, unapproachable or just would like to rubberduck 🦆
